Calming and Cooling Summer Skin

Skin Care Benefits of Geranium

Summertime often means lots of time outdoors, and while the sun and fresh air is great for your overall health, skin can get burned or dried out, and there are numerous ways that it can get irritated or blemished. There are quite a few essential oil applications that will help keep your skin fresh and healthy during the summer months, so let’s take a look at some of the best ones.
Taking inspiration from the ancient Egyptians who used this oil to promote soft, radiant skin, I use geranium oil as a toner almost every day. Geranium helps to tighten skin and combat the effects of aging, and can visibly reduce the look of wrinkles. If you’re prone to skin irritation from allergies in the summer, geranium oil is your first best choice to calm inflammation, and will even help to heal scars and other blemishes. I choose a natural, light facial moisturizer, and add 1 or 2 drops at each application. I use the same approach for my body, I just add a few more drops to my moisturizer since I’m covering more skin.

If you’re prone to acne, your best choice is to add lavender essential oil to your routine. Lavender is known for its antibacterial qualities, and its name even means “to wash” in Latin. Not only does lavender inhibit the bacterial growth that leads to blemishes, but it can help regulate the amount of oily sebum that is sometimes overproduced in areas of our faces that can lead to clogged pores. You can add lavender to your moisturizer, and you can also add it to your face wash.

If you’re looking for a powerhouse to repair damaged skin, or if you want some serious anti-aging therapy, you’ll want to add frankincense to your skincare plan. Frankincense is a powerful way to rejuvenate skin cells, minimizing enlarged pores, reducing acne blemishes and scarring, softening wrinkles, and tightening skin to slow the signs of aging. Add this oil to your light moisturizer, or simply to a light carrier oil, and apply once or twice a day to see the best effects.
