Natural Home Cleaning with Essential Oils

Natural Home Cleaning with Essential Oils

Organically cleaning your Home

The abundance of chemical cleaning products does not mean that those products are better, more powerful, or safer. Vinegar and baking soda have long been used to safely clean homes, and even bodies. Baking soda can be used to clean teeth and hair, as well as, counter tops.Vinegar is a great rinse for your hair and body. These are safe products for you and your family, and unlike store bought products with petrochemicals, ammonia, and bleach they won’t harm you or your family. Natural home cleaning can be safer and cheaper and you don’t even have to make batches. It can also leave your home smelling fantastic when combined with the use of essential oils. You mix vinegar, water, and a few drops of your favorite oil and you can clean counters, windows, light switches, door knobs and more.

Common blends of oils to be used for cleaning are sweet orange oil, a personal favorite for its uplifting qualities, lemon, peppermint, eucalyptus (another favorite), thyme and Thieves Oil.

You don’t need to add much oil to your cleaning solutions, simply add your oils to your bucket of water with your natural cleansing solution, Most of these oils also have anti-bacterial properties that will help to promote good health in your home, while reducing bacteria and mold. Using these products serves a dual purpose of cleaning plus creating a powerful and healthy aroma in your home. It’s time to come to our senses, our sense of smell, that is. These little liquid droplets pass the smell test and seem to hold the possibility of actually healing your home. Who wouldn’t rather smell lavender, lemon and peppermint over bleach?

  • tea tree oil is mixed with water; pour in a spray bottle and use as disinfectant on toilets, sinks etc
  • lemon oil applied to showers prevents soap scum build-up
  • Mix lavender and lemon grass oil and use to clean windows
  • You can kill up to 99% of airborne bacteria by diffusing a blend of cinnamon, clove, eucalyptus, lemon, and rosemary oils.
  • My all time favorite Thieves Oil as an all purpose cleaner in the house, Door Knobs light switches etc…

By far, use your favorite essential oil for cleaning, especially during this time of year when you want to freshen everything up, and the weather does not permit you to throw open the windows with abandon. It’s not just the cleaning but also an opportunity to clear out old energy stored during the winter. If you view it as a chance to clean up your mental and emotional space, the spring cleaning takes on a whole different meaning and will help align your energy with health and happiness. The perfect combination for new beginnings.

If you need any more reason to clean with essential oils aside from the pleasant smells, the improvement of overall health in the home, there is also the added factor that when you eschew the use of petrochemicals and encourage others to do the same you are slowly decreasing the demand for fossil fuels and other harmful products. You are also putting money into the hands of people who tend to and nurture the earth. The farmers who grow these plants and trees, the workers who tend to them, and the processors of the oils are all contributing to a better and safer world. Your purchase is a powerful voice for good.
